What should an athlete do after a disappointing race?

No athlete will set a personal record in every race. Weather, course difficulty, accumulated training, illness, and the way a race unfolds all affect finishing time.

Our training is designed to help athletes perform their best near the end of the season. A slower result during heavy training does not automatically mean the athlete is regressing.

After a disappointing race, productive questions include:

  • What went well?
  • What could I control better next time?
  • Did I follow my race plan?
  • Were my sleep, nutrition, and hydration appropriate?
  • What can I learn from this race?

Reflection supports long-term development better than anger or excessive focus on the finishing time.
